Former NFL Star Doug Martin Passes Away at 36

Doug Martin, a former All-Pro running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has sadly passed away at the age of 36, his family confirmed on Sunday.

In their statement, the family said:
"It is with great sadness to inform you all that Doug Martin passed away Saturday morning. Cause of death is currently unconfirmed. Please respect our privacy at this time."

A Beloved Player in Tampa Bay

Martin played six of his seven NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The team remembered him as a “fan favorite” who made a strong impact on the franchise. He was chosen as one of the top 50 players in team history during their 50-year celebration.

Despite being only 5-foot-9, Martin was powerful and tough on the field, earning the nickname “Muscle Hamster.” Throughout his career, he ran for 5,356 yards and scored 30 touchdowns.

A Strong Start to His Career

Martin attended Boise State from 2007 to 2011 and became one of the school’s top players, ranking in the top 10 for rushing yards and touchdowns. He was drafted in the first round by the Buccaneers in 2012.

In his rookie season, he made an incredible start by rushing for 1,454 yards and 11 touchdowns, plus catching 49 passes for 472 yards and 1 touchdown. This earned him a spot in the Pro Bowl. At the time, his total yards were the third highest ever by an NFL rookie.

Best Season in 2015

Martin’s best year came in 2015, when he rushed for 1,402 yards, scored six touchdowns, and was named All-Pro.

Final Seasons

Martin played two more seasons with Tampa Bay and ended his NFL career in 2018 with the Oakland Raiders.
