Gal Gadot Still Wants to Return as the Evil Queen — Even After ‘Snow White’ Flopped
Gal Gadot isn’t ready to close the chapter on one of Disney’s most controversial remakes. Despite the harsh reviews and disappointing box-office numbers for Disney’s Snow White (2025), the actress says she would happily reprise her role as the Evil Queen if the studio ever gives the green light.
Disney’s attempt to reimagine its 1937 animated classic had all the ingredients for a major revival: a rising star in Rachel Zegler as Snow White, a blockbuster name like Gadot as the villain, and the long-standing success of Disney’s live-action remake trend. But instead, the film became one of the studio’s biggest box-office misfires — weighed down by early backlash, creative decisions that polarized audiences, and the political noise surrounding its stars.
Gal Gadot Says She’d “Love” to Return
Even though her performance was frequently criticized in reviews, Gadot isn’t shying away from the role. When asked by US Weekly whether she would consider returning as the Evil Queen, her response was enthusiastic:
“I would love to do that. Yes. Tell Bob Iger — Bob, I’ll do that.”
Her eagerness stands in stark contrast to how the movie was received, showing she still feels connected to the character despite the controversy.
A Box-Office Disaster for Disney
Snow White debuted in theaters in March 2025 and immediately struggled. Critics gave the film a 39% Rotten Tomatoes score, and while audiences were slightly kinder at 69%, the IMDb score of 2.2/10 made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
The biggest blow came at the box office:
-
Budget: ~$270 million
-
Worldwide gross: ~$205 million
-
Outcome: Major financial loss after marketing expenses
The adaptation became a textbook example of a high-budget remake failing to resonate with modern audiences.
Disney Isn’t Slowing Down on Live-Action Remakes
While Snow White stumbled, Disney’s remake machine is still running strong. The studio scored a massive hit with Lilo & Stitch earlier in 2025, which crossed $1 billion worldwide, proving audiences are still willing to show up for nostalgia done right.
Upcoming projects include:
-
Live-action Moana (2026)
-
Live-action Hercules (in development)
-
Additional remakes reportedly in early stages
Even Snow White is finding a second life on streaming, where viewers who skipped the theatrical release are giving it another look and finding it less disastrous than critics initially claimed.
Gadot’s Take on Why the Movie Failed
Gadot has spoken openly about the backlash, pointing to political chatter and strained public perceptions during the press cycle. She believes the film suffered more from controversy than from the movie itself.
Outside of Disney, Gadot remains busy:
-
The Runner, from the director of The Last King of Scotland
-
Cleopatra, a long-developing project that has sparked debate since its announcement
-
Additional action and drama roles in development
Still, the chances of her returning as the Evil Queen are slim. With Snow White becoming a PR and financial headache for Disney, the studio is unlikely to revisit the property any time soon.
Will We See Gadot as the Evil Queen Again?
For now, it appears unlikely. While Gadot’s enthusiasm is clear, Disney may prefer to move forward rather than revisit one of its most talked-about disappointments. Unless streaming success dramatically changes the narrative, Gadot’s wish to return as the Evil Queen may remain just that — a wish.
