‘Stranger Things’ Live-Action Spin-off Officially Moving Forward at Netflix

Stranger Things is gearing up for its long-awaited final season, with Netflix releasing the first part of Season 5 later this week. Fans are buzzing with anticipation as they prepare to reunite with Eleven, the Hawkins crew, and the Upside Down one last time. But even as the flagship series nears its end, the universe of Stranger Things is far from finished.

Creators Matt and Ross Duffer have confirmed that their previously announced live-action spin-off is officially “moving forward” at Netflix — and development is already underway.

‘Stranger Things’ Live-Action Spin-off Officially Moving Forward at Netflix

A Spin-Off Still Guided by the Duffer Brothers

In a new interview with Deadline, the Duffers revealed fresh updates about the mysterious spin-off. Although the duo recently signed a major deal with Paramount to take on new creative projects, Stranger Things remains their baby, and they’ll continue to shape anything tied to the franchise.

Matt Duffer shared that Netflix finally knows the exact concept of the spin-off after years of secrecy:

“We are moving forward with it. Netflix finally knows what it is. We held it for so long, they were frustrated. Finn guessed what it was — he was the only one who figured it out.”

Ross added that the actor may not even remember his own discovery, joking that Wolfhard might have forgotten or was simply being playful.

Matt continued:

“Now everyone at Netflix knows. They're very excited. I'm excited about the team we've assembled — though I can’t talk about them yet. We’re trying to move quickly, so hopefully it happens soon.”

What Will the Stranger Things Spin-Off Be About?

The big question: who is the spin-off centered around?

The Duffers aren’t revealing the lead character yet — partly because the outcome of Season 5 could impact which characters survive. But they did make one thing clear: the spin-off will not be a repeat of the main series.

Matt described it as something unique:

“It’s quite different from Stranger Things. The idea came from a place of passion. It’s not forced or assigned. We want anything with the Stranger Things name on it to feel special and high-quality.”

Even with their Paramount deal, the brothers confirm they’re still deeply involved:

“Ross and I are going to remain very, very involved. We’re actively working on the spin-off idea right now.”

The Final Chapter of Stranger Things Arrives This Year

Netflix will release the fifth and final season of Stranger Things in three parts:

  • Part 1: November 26, 2025

  • Part 2: December 25, 2025

  • Series Finale: December 31, 2025

As the story closes on Hawkins, the Upside Down, and the original cast, the spin-off could become the next evolution of the franchise — offering fans a fresh perspective while keeping the spirit of the world alive.
