Vin Diesel Reveals Striking First Look at ‘Riddick: Furya’ After 12 Years
After more than a decade of waiting, Vin Diesel is officially back as the galaxy’s most dangerous antihero. The actor has shared a brand-new image from Riddick: Furya, giving fans their first real glimpse of his long-awaited return as Richard B. Riddick — complete with the iconic shining eyes that define the character.
Vin Diesel Drops New Image as Riddick — Fans Want the Trailer Next
Posting on Instagram, Diesel unveiled the moody shot of himself back in full Riddick mode, writing, “What these Furyan eyes have seen…” The still doesn’t reveal much about the plot or tone, but for long-time fans who have waited 12 years for movement on the franchise, the image alone is enough to spark excitement.
However, the post has also ignited impatience. With no trailer yet and only bits of news trickling out, fans are eager for a full reveal — especially after such a long gap since 2013’s Riddick.
Riddick: Furya Brings the Antihero Back Home
The new installment is once again written and directed by David Twohy, the creator behind all previous Riddick films, with Vin Diesel also producing. Alongside the image, the official synopsis of Riddick: Furya confirms that this chapter finally takes Riddick back to his mysterious origin world:
“Riddick finally returns to his home world, a place he barely remembers and one he fears might be left in ruins. But there he finds other Furyans fighting for their existence against a new monster. And some of these Furyans are more like Riddick than he could have ever imagined.”
This marks the first time the franchise will fully explore the Furyan race — something teased for more than 20 years but never shown in depth.
How the Riddick Franchise Became a Cult Sci-Fi Universe
Riddick was introduced in Pitch Black (2000) as a dangerous convict forced to team up with survivors on a dark, creature-filled planet. The character’s popularity transformed the small sci-fi thriller into a full franchise, expanding lore dramatically with The Chronicles of Riddick (2004), which revealed Riddick’s heritage as one of the last Furyans — a powerful and nearly extinct warrior race.
The third film, Riddick (2013), scaled things back to a survival-focused storyline, returning the series to the gritty tone that made fans fall in love with the character in the first place.
Now, after years of talks and script development, the universe is finally set to expand in a meaningful way.
Vin Diesel Eyes His Next Big Franchise
With the Fast & Furious saga reportedly nearing its conclusion, Diesel seems ready to shift his energy toward another major world — and Riddick may be his next powerhouse franchise. The actor has repeatedly hinted at building a “Riddick shared universe”, teasing new stories, spin-offs, and deeper lore exploration.
He’s also attached to other long-awaited projects, including The Last Witch Hunter 2, confirming that Diesel is preparing to revive several of his fan-favorite characters.
Riddick’s Long-Awaited Return Is Finally Real
While fans still await the first trailer, the new look at Riddick: Furya proves that the fourth film is officially underway and delivering exactly what viewers have been hoping for: a return to the darker mythology surrounding the Furyans.
With the franchise’s cult fanbase, a packed lore waiting to be explored, and Diesel fully committed, Riddick: Furya is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated sci-fi comebacks of the decade.
