Fan-Favorite SNL Star Bowen Yang Is Leaving After 7 Years

This week’s episode of Saturday Night Live will be Bowen Yang’s final appearance as a regular cast member. After seven years on the show, the fan-favorite comedian is officially saying goodbye.

Bowen Yang joined SNL in 2018 as a writer during Season 44. He later became a featured cast member in Season 45 and was promoted to the main cast in Season 47. His exit seems to be on good terms, as no drama or conflict has been reported.

According to reports, this will also be the final new episode of SNL in 2025. The timing is special, as the episode will be hosted by Ariana Grande, who stars alongside Yang in Wicked and Wicked: For Good. The musical guest for the night will be Cher.

During his time on SNL, Bowen Yang became one of the show’s biggest highlights. He has received four Emmy nominations and made history as the first Chinese-American cast member in the show’s long history.

What’s Next for Bowen Yang?

Although fans will miss seeing him on SNL every week, Bowen Yang is staying very busy. His film Wicked: For Good is still playing in theaters, and there are strong rumors that the Wicked franchise could expand with more movies or TV projects.

Yang is also well known for his popular podcast Las Culturistas, which he hosts with Matt Rogers. The podcast focuses on pop culture and has been praised for years, even winning spots on “best podcasts of all time” lists. It has grown so popular that it inspired its own awards show, which aired on Bravo and streamed on Peacock.

In addition, Yang has appeared in movies like Bros, Fire Island, and Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain. Leaving SNL will likely give him more time to take on new film and TV roles.

A Big Change for Saturday Night Live

Bowen Yang is not the only cast member leaving this season. Several others, including Ego Nwodim, Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker, and Emil Wakim, have also exited during or before Season 51.

SNL recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, showing that the show is still strong. However, it is clearly going through a big transition. One major question fans still have is how long Kenan Thompson, the longest-running cast member since 2003, will remain on the show.

While Bowen Yang’s departure marks the end of an era, his future looks brighter than ever.
