Monsterverse Is Expanding With a New Spin-Off Series

The Monsterverse is officially growing bigger. Apple TV has announced a brand-new spin-off series connected to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and it will bring back a fan-favorite character.

Actor Wyatt Russell will star in and produce the new series, which will focus on the early life of Lee Shaw. This confirms rumors that fans have been hearing earlier this year.

Monsterverse Is Expanding With a New Spin-Off Series

Wyatt Russell Returns as Lee Shaw

In Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 1, Wyatt Russell played the younger version of Lee Shaw, while his real-life father Kurt Russell played the older version of the same character. Fans loved this unique casting choice.

The new spin-off will fully focus on young Lee Shaw and his dangerous missions during the Cold War era.

Meanwhile, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 is set to premiere on Apple TV on February 27, 2026.

What Is the New Spin-Off About?

According to Apple TV, the spin-off series will follow Colonel Lee Shaw in 1984. In the story, Shaw goes on a secret mission behind enemy lines to stop the Soviets from releasing a massive new Titan.

This Titan is said to be powerful enough to destroy the United States and change the outcome of the Cold War. The series promises action, suspense, and classic Monsterverse-style chaos.

Creative Team Behind the Series

The spin-off is being developed by Joby Harold, who will also oversee the future of Apple TV’s Monsterverse projects.

Joby Harold shared his excitement, saying he feels honored to help expand such an iconic universe and praised Apple and Legendary for their strong partnership.

Legendary Television president Jason Clodfelter also praised Harold, calling him a talented storyteller who understands what fans love about the Monsterverse.

What’s Next for the Monsterverse?

The Monsterverse began in 2014 with Godzilla, followed by:

  • Kong: Skull Island (2017)

  • Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

  • Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)

  • Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

The next movie, Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, is expected to release in 2027 and will be directed by Grant Sputore.

Along with the new Lee Shaw spin-off and Monarch Season 2, no other live-action Monsterverse projects have been announced yet.

Monsterverse Beyond Live Action

In 2023, Netflix released the animated series Skull Island. While it has not been officially renewed, fans recently received the comic series Return to Skull Island. Godzilla has also appeared in several comic book stories in recent years.
