Netflix Reveals Long Runtimes for the Final Episodes of Stranger Things
Netflix has officially shared the runtimes for the final four episodes of Stranger Things, and fans should be ready for long viewing sessions. The second half of Stranger Things Season 5 starts later this week, bringing the long-running series to an end.
The first four episodes of Season 5 were released on November 26, 2025, just before Thanksgiving. The final four episodes will be released during the holiday season. Three episodes will stream on Christmas Day, and the final episode will air on New Year’s Eve.
Runtimes of the Final Four Episodes
According to an Instagram post by Ross Duffer, here are the episode titles and runtimes:
-
Episode 5: “Shock Jock” – 68 minutes
-
Episode 6: “Escape from Camazotz” – 75 minutes
-
Episode 7: “The Bridge” – 66 minutes
-
Episode 8: “The Rightside Up” – 128 minutes (2 hours and 8 minutes)
The series finale is very long, but it is not the longest episode in Stranger Things history. The Season 4 finale was even longer at 2 hours and 28 minutes. Still, both finales are longer than many full-length movies.
Series Finale Coming to Theaters
Because the final episode is almost the length of a movie, Netflix will give it a limited theatrical release. The finale will be shown in more than 500 theaters across the U.S. and Canada on New Year’s Eve.
Showtimes will begin at the same time the episode becomes available on Netflix:
-
5:00 p.m. PT
-
8:00 p.m. ET
The episode will continue playing in theaters until January 1, 2026.
A Long Journey Comes to an End
Stranger Things first premiered on Netflix on July 15, 2016, and quickly became a global hit.
-
Season 2 arrived in October 2017

Season 3 premiered on July 4, 2019
-
Season 4 was released in two parts in 2022
The wait for Season 5 has been long, with nearly nine years passing since the show first began.
High Expectations for the Finale
Fans have very high hopes for the ending of Stranger Things. Many are wondering if the show will deliver a satisfying finale or face criticism like other famous TV endings such as Game of Thrones, How I Met Your Mother, and Dexter.
One thing is certain: Stranger Things is set to end 2025 with a bang.
