The Extraction action franchise is growing again. Netflix has officially started production on a new spin-off TV series titled Mercenary: An Extraction Series, and fans have now gotten their first official look at the show.

The series will have eight episodes and is set in the same world as the popular Extraction movies starring Chris Hemsworth. This time, the story will focus on new characters and a new dangerous mission.

Omar Sy Leads the New Action Series

The spin-off stars Omar Sy, best known for his role in Lupin. He plays a mercenary for hire who is sent on a deadly rescue mission in Libya.

According to Netflix, the story follows the mercenary as he tries to save hostages while caught between violent factions and ruthless killers. Along the way, he must face tough moral choices, emotional pain, and betrayal.

The series keeps the same intense action style as the Extraction films but tells the story over a longer format.

The show is led by Glen Mazzara, the showrunner behind The Walking Dead and The Shield. Directing duties are shared by Louise Hooper (The Sandman) and *Tim Southam (One Piece).

Glen Mazzara has shared his excitement about the project, calling Mercenary the biggest show he has ever worked on. He said seeing the show come together on set was an emotional moment and confirmed the series delivers the scale and action fans expect.

He also praised Omar Sy, calling him the heart of the show. According to Mazzara, Sy brings warmth, charm, and humanity to a character stuck in extremely dangerous situations.

Will Chris Hemsworth Appear?

While the show is part of the Extraction universe, Netflix has not confirmed whether Chris Hemsworth will appear. Even if he does, the story clearly centers on Omar Sy’s character as the main hero.
