Producer Reveals Season 2 Plans After Netflix Cancels Boots

Netflix recently canceled its dramedy series Boots just two months after it premiered. The sudden decision surprised not only fans but also the creators of the show. According to producer Brent Miller, the team already had plans for Season 2.

Miller explained that series creator Andy Parker wanted to continue the story beyond boot camp. In the next season, the characters were supposed to move from training into real battlefield experiences. Despite the cancellation, the creators are not giving up and are now looking for another streaming platform to continue the series.

Miller shared that he is proud of the show and grateful it was made. He added that the team believes strongly in the story and hopes to find a new home for Boots.

Producer Reveals Season 2 Plans After Netflix Cancels Boots

What Boots Was About

Boots is an eight-episode series based on the book The Pink Marine by Greg Cope White. The book tells White’s real-life story as a gay man serving in the U.S. military. While the book focuses on the late 1970s and early 1980s, the TV series updated the story and set it in the 1990s.

The show was praised for its emotional storytelling and honest portrayal of queer experiences in the military.

A Special Project for Norman Lear

The cancellation of Boots is especially meaningful because it was the final project developed by legendary producer Norman Lear, who passed away in 2023. Lear was famous for creating classic shows like All in the Family, Sanford and Son, and Maude.

Brent Miller reflected on Lear’s involvement and said that Lear would have been disappointed by the cancellation, but also proud of the impact the show made around the world. He believed Lear would have encouraged the team to fight for a second season and urged fans to speak out in support of the show.

Miller also mentioned the emotional timing of the cancellation, which came shortly after the deaths of Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Reiner, both longtime collaborators of Lear.

Strong Reviews, But Still Canceled

Netflix has not given an official reason for canceling Boots. This is surprising because the show received 90% positive reviews from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, along with a 90% audience score. These ratings show that the series was well-liked by both critics and viewers.

Fans are now hoping that renewed interest and public support can help convince another streaming service to pick up the show for Season 2.
