The film, titled The Entertainment System Is Down, is directed by Ruben Östlund, the filmmaker behind the Oscar-nominated Triangle of Sadness. The movie stars Keanu Reeves, along with Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl, Nicholas Braun, and Julie Delpy, and is already gaining attention for both its unusual concept and Östlund’s bold approach to promotion.

Keanu Reeves plays an electrician on the flight and ends up sitting next to a dead body, setting the stage for the film’s dark humor. To make the setting realistic, the production team even built the airplane interior from scratch.

While some of these details are harmless teasers, Östlund has also revealed how the story ends and what happens to the characters—something that has shocked many fans.

He says that when he hears about a great film idea, his curiosity comes from wondering how the director will visually and creatively bring it to life. The ending itself doesn’t matter much to him.

Östlund also pointed to YouTube culture as an influence. Many videos give away the ending in the title, yet people still click because they want to see the execution. He compares this to classic stories like Hamlet—everyone knows how it ends, but audiences still watch to experience the performance.

In his view, modern cinema must grab attention quickly, and revealing details can actually increase curiosity, not kill it.

Spoilers Are Everywhere Now

Spoilers have become almost impossible to avoid in today’s world. Social media, trailers, and even official marketing often reveal major moments far too early.

Big franchises like the MCU have faced backlash for trailers that show too much, and leaked footage frequently spreads online before fans even get a chance to watch a movie themselves. For many viewers, spoilers are frustrating and unavoidable.

However, Östlund’s situation is different. His films are made for a cinephile audience—people who care more about themes, style, and filmmaking than plot twists.

A Different Kind of Keanu Reeves Movie

Another reason the spoilers may not hurt the film is that dark comedy is not what fans usually expect from Keanu Reeves. This project already stands out from his usual action-heavy roles, which may attract a different audience altogether.
