David Harbour and Rebecca Hall Star in New Horror Movie Adaptation

David Harbour, best known for Stranger Things, and Rebecca Hall from The Prestige are set to lead a new supernatural horror film based on the bestselling novel A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay.

The novel, which won the Bram Stoker Award in 2015, is being adapted into a feature film with Lionsgate handling worldwide distribution. The movie will be co-directed by Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala, the filmmaking duo known for their unsettling horror style. Production is expected to begin next month.

Also joining the cast is Esmé Creed-Miles, known for her role in The Sandman.

A Strong Creative Team Behind the Film

The project has an impressive production lineup. Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey are producing the film through their company Team Downey, alongside Fifth Season and The Allegiance Theater.

Lionsgate executives have praised the creative team, describing their vision as bold, disturbing, and emotionally powerful. The novel has also received high praise from Stephen King, who once called it his favorite horror novel of the decade.

What Is A Head Full of Ghosts About?

The story follows the Barrett family, whose quiet suburban life falls apart when their teenage daughter begins to show signs of mental illness — or possibly something much darker. Her condition attracts the attention of a reality TV show focused on documenting supposed demonic possession.

Years later, the younger daughter, Merry, looks back on the traumatic events with a journalist. As the truth slowly unfolds, the story explores grief, memory, and whether the horror was supernatural or tragically human.

A Long Road to the Screen

The movie has been in development for several years. Earlier versions of the project were linked to different directors, but for unknown reasons, those plans changed. Now, with Franz and Fiala at the helm, the film appears to be moving forward with a clear and confident vision.

A Familiar Genre for David Harbour

While this film marks a darker turn, horror is not new territory for David Harbour. In 2023, he appeared in Netflix’s We Have a Ghost, a lighter, family-friendly supernatural comedy.

This time, however, A Head Full of Ghosts promises a much more serious and disturbing tone — closer to psychological horror than comedy. Fans are hopeful that this project will allow Harbour to fully explore the genre in a more intense and memorable way.
