Has Fallen 4 Delayed? Latest Update on Gerard Butler’s Action Franchise
Action star Gerard Butler has delivered some of the most explosive action movies of the past decade through the popular Has Fallen franchise. However, fans waiting for the next chapter may need more patience. A new update suggests that Night Has Fallen is not moving forward anytime soon.
Here is everything we know about the future of the franchise and its recent developments.
Director Shares Disappointing Update on Night Has Fallen
Director Ric Roman Waugh, who recently worked with Butler on Greenland 2: Migration, has revealed that nothing is currently in development for the next Has Fallen movie.
Waugh previously directed Angel Has Fallen, the third film in the series. The franchise began with Olympus Has Fallen and continued with London Has Fallen.
The third film followed Secret Service agent Mike Banning, played by Butler, as he was framed for attempting to assassinate the U.S. President. While audiences enjoyed the intense action and emotional story, critics had mixed reactions.
A fourth movie titled Night Has Fallen was expected to start filming in 2023. However, industry-wide strikes delayed many productions, including this one. Now, Waugh says both he and Butler are unsure how to continue the story without repeating the same formula.
According to the director, they do not want to make another sequel unless they can evolve the character of Mike Banning and raise the emotional stakes along with the action.
Why the Franchise Is Taking Time
Gerard Butler had previously mentioned that a script existed and that there was a “really fun idea” for the next film. But things appear to have changed.
The creative team is reportedly asking an important question: how can Mike Banning grow as a character? After saving world leaders multiple times, simply repeating similar action scenes may not feel fresh. The filmmakers want a stronger emotional journey, focusing on Banning’s family life and personal struggles.
This careful approach may delay the sequel, but it could also lead to a better and more meaningful story if it eventually happens.
