Spider-Man Noir Gets New Name and Identity with Nic Cage Returning
Fans of the Spider-Verse have a major update to be excited about! The upcoming Spider-Man: Noir series, now called Spider-Noir, will see Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage returning as the live-action version of his Spider-Verse character. Along with the first official look at the series, creators have confirmed some big changes to the character’s identity and name.
In previous Spider-Verse films like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Cage’s Spider-Man Noir was a version of Peter Parker. But in the new series, his character will be Ben Reilly, a clone of Peter Parker who becomes the superhero Scarlet Spider in the comics. On top of that, Cage’s character will now be called simply The Spider, giving a nod to classic noir heroes like The Spirit and The Shadow.
Christopher Miller, executive producer of Spider-Noir and part of the acclaimed duo Lord and Miller, shared these updates in an interview with Esquire. The series is expected to continue the dark, noir-inspired tone fans loved in previous Spider-Verse appearances, while introducing a fresh take on one of Marvel’s most intriguing alternate-universe Spider-Men.
While the exact release date hasn’t been announced, excitement is building as Marvel and MGM+ prepare to bring this unique Spider-Man story to live-action for the first time. With Nicolas Cage back in action and a new identity to explore, The Spider promises to be a standout entry in the Spider-Verse universe.
