Alia Bhatt has reportedly started shooting for Tumbbad 2, the highly awaited sequel to the 2018 folk horror film. The actor was recently spotted on the film’s set, increasing excitement around her role in the new chapter.

Bhatt was seen in a simple casual look, wearing an oversized striped shirt with her hair tied in a high ponytail. She reportedly visited the ongoing shoot, where the team is working on scenes involving a river and an old fort.

Alia Bhatt Joins the Tumbbad World

Alia’s entry into Tumbbad 2 was officially announced in July. Sohum Shah, who is returning as an actor and producer, welcomed her to the franchise on social media.

Her casting is particularly interesting because Tumbbad 2 will be Alia Bhatt’s first major project in the horror genre. The filmmakers have not revealed much about her character, keeping details of the story under wraps.

However, details about both Alia’s and Nawazuddin’s characters are still being kept secret. Their involvement suggests that the sequel could expand the world and mythology introduced in the original Tumbbad.

Tumbbad 2 Promises a Bigger World

Directed by Adesh Prasad and led by Sohum Shah, Tumbbad 2 is expected to explore the folklore and mythology of the first film on a much larger scale.

The story is likely to continue the themes of greed, fear and human nature that made the original film stand out. For the new production, the makers have reportedly built a huge set covering around 7–8 acres in Mumbai. The set is designed to look like an entire city, giving the sequel a much bigger visual scale.

Tumbbad 2 Release Date

The sequel is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 3, 2027. Sohum Shah previously teased the film with the tagline, “A sinful past, an ominous future,” hinting that the story will continue the dark legacy of greed.

With Alia Bhatt, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Sohum Shah coming together, Tumbbad 2 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Indian horror films in the coming years.
