The Odyssey Crosses $1 Billion and Becomes Christopher Nolan’s Biggest Hit

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has reached a huge milestone at the worldwide box office. The epic adventure has officially crossed $1 billion globally, making it one of the biggest movies of 2026.

The film, produced by Universal Pictures, has been performing strongly in both the United States and international markets. Its latest box office result also means that The Odyssey is now on track to become the highest-grossing movie of Christopher Nolan’s career.

The Odyssey Passes $1 Billion Worldwide

The Odyssey has earned around $429.7 million in North America and another $570.3 million from international markets. Together, those numbers have pushed its worldwide total beyond the $1 billion mark.

The movie is still expanding into major international markets. It recently opened in South Korea, while its release in China is scheduled for August 14. Japanese audiences will get the film on September 11.

Its strong performance could continue to grow as more countries receive the movie.

Nolan’s Biggest Box Office Success

Crossing the billion-dollar mark puts The Odyssey ahead of Nolan’s previous box office record holder, The Dark Knight Rises.

The 2012 Batman movie finished its worldwide run with about $1.085 billion. With The Odyssey still playing in theaters, Nolan’s latest film is expected to move beyond that total and become his biggest commercial success.

The achievement is especially impressive because Nolan has built his career around large-scale original and franchise films, including Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk and Oppenheimer.

Strong Results Around the World

The Odyssey has performed well across several international markets.

The United Kingdom and Ireland currently lead with around $75.3 million, followed by France with $52.4 million and Italy with $46.9 million.

Germany has contributed $35.2 million, while Australia has reached $29.8 million. Other major markets include Mexico, Spain, India, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia.

The movie has also benefited from strong interest in premium formats such as IMAX. Major IMAX locations in cities including Los Angeles and New York are reportedly seeing heavy demand.

A Huge Year for Movies

2026 has already become an unusually strong year for blockbuster movies.

The Odyssey is now among the films that have crossed the $1 billion worldwide mark this year. Other major billion-dollar releases include Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Toy Story 5, Michael and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day currently sits among the year's biggest global releases, while The Odyssey continues to build momentum.

What Comes Next for The Odyssey?

The Odyssey still has several important international releases ahead, meaning its final worldwide total could climb significantly.

With strong audience interest, premium-format screenings and more markets opening soon, Nolan’s epic could finish its theatrical run well above the $1 billion milestone.

For Christopher Nolan, however, the biggest achievement is clear: The Odyssey is set to become his most successful film at the global box office.
