Aamir Khan’s Next Big Move? Actor in Talks With Sajid Nadiadwala and R. Balki for Ambitious Superhero Film
Aamir Khan may be preparing to enter a completely new cinematic territory. After his earlier superhero project with Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj failed to move forward, the actor is now reportedly exploring another ambitious superhero film — this time with producer Sajid Nadiadwala and acclaimed filmmaker R. Balki.
The project is still in its early stages, so there is no formal commitment from Aamir yet. However, discussions are reportedly underway, and the actor has shown interest in the idea. With the screenplay currently being developed, the next few months could determine whether this unusual collaboration eventually becomes a reality.
Aamir Khan in Talks for R. Balki’s Superhero Film
According to reports, Aamir Khan is in preliminary discussions with Sajid Nadiadwala for a superhero film that R. Balki is set to direct.
The project is currently at a very early stage, with the scripting process actively taking shape. Aamir has been approached for the film and has reportedly expressed interest, although he has not officially signed on.
The makers are expected to continue developing the screenplay and the larger creative vision before making any major decisions. Considering the scale being planned, elements such as the story, character arc and production design will need to be carefully developed before the project can progress.
For Aamir, the screenplay will be particularly important. The actor is known for wanting a locked script before committing to a project, and the filmmakers are therefore working closely with him during the writing process.
A First-Time Collaboration for Aamir, Sajid and Balki
If the superhero project moves ahead, it would bring together three names who have never previously collaborated on a film in this combination.
Aamir Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala have shared a long-standing cordial friendship, but they have not worked together on a movie so far. Their potential collaboration could therefore mark an important new partnership for both.
The project would also be Aamir’s first film with R. Balki.
Balki has built a reputation for exploring unusual concepts and unconventional storytelling. His filmography includes Cheeni Kum, Paa, Ki & Ka, Pad Man and Chup: Revenge of the Artist. His approach to filmmaking has often moved beyond familiar Bollywood formulas, making his involvement in a superhero project particularly intriguing.
The superhero film is expected to have an identity of its own rather than simply following established genre templates.
R. Balki’s Unexpected Aamir Khan Collaboration
Interestingly, R. Balki has mostly worked with Amitabh Bachchan throughout his filmmaking career and has generally avoided collaborations with Bollywood’s leading Khans.
In a 2017 interview, Balki explained why working with the Khans could be difficult from a practical perspective.
“If I start thinking of making a film with them right now, I will get quite old by the time I start... I'd rather be more practical,”
Almost a decade later, the filmmaker is now attempting to develop a large-scale project with Aamir Khan.
That makes the reported superhero film an especially interesting development in Balki’s career. It could also give Aamir an opportunity to work with a filmmaker known for high-concept ideas and unconventional subjects.
Aamir Khan’s Superhero Plans Come After Lokesh Kanagaraj Project
This is not Aamir Khan’s first recent connection to a superhero film.
Last year, the actor was reportedly discussing a Pan-India superhero project with Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj. The two sides went through multiple meetings and narrations over several months.
However, the project was eventually shelved because of script-related issues.
Aamir’s reported discussions with R. Balki suggest that the actor has not completely moved away from the superhero genre. This time, though, the project is still in the development phase, and its future will depend heavily on how the screenplay and overall vision evolve.
What About Race 4?
The superhero project is also developing at a time when Aamir Khan has reportedly been linked with Race 4.
However, both projects remain in the discussion stage. This means neither should currently be treated as a confirmed Aamir Khan film.
The superhero movie could move forward if the script reaches the actor’s expectations, but it could also change direction or fail to materialize. For now, the focus remains on developing the screenplay and determining whether the project has the foundation required for Aamir to commit.
Why This Matters for Aamir Khan
The potential collaboration is notable for several reasons.
First, it would give Aamir Khan a chance to explore the superhero genre through a filmmaker whose previous work has focused heavily on unconventional concepts. Second, it would bring him together with Sajid Nadiadwala for the first time on a film.
Most importantly, the project is being developed around the screenplay rather than rushing toward production. Since Aamir prefers to commit once a script is locked, the writing stage could ultimately be the biggest factor in determining the film’s future.
If the project comes together, the combination of Aamir Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala and R. Balki could create a superhero film unlike the actor’s previous projects.
What Is Aamir Khan Working on Next?
At present, Aamir Khan’s only confirmed project is Ashutosh Gowariker’s Lalkaara, a period sports drama based on the historic 1952 India-Pakistan Test series.
The film is scheduled to begin production in November 2026.
Aamir is also expected to follow Lalkaara with Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots sequel. However, that project remains in the development stage as well.
For now, the R. Balki superhero film is another intriguing possibility in Aamir’s future lineup rather than a confirmed project.
The Big Question: Will Aamir Khan’s Superhero Film Happen?
There is plenty of potential in a project bringing together Aamir Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala and R. Balki, but it is important to remember that the film is still at a nascent stage.
Aamir has shown interest, the scripting process is underway, and discussions are expected to continue over the coming months. But until the screenplay is locked and the actor formally commits, the project remains a work in progress.
For now, the biggest mystery is not whether Aamir Khan is interested in another superhero film — it is whether R. Balki’s ambitious vision can develop into a script strong enough to bring the actor officially on board.
If everything falls into place, this could become one of the more unexpected superhero collaborations in Bollywood.
