The story of late actor Mukul Dev’s final screen appearance may have taken an unexpected turn. After his death in May 2025, many believed that his role in Son Of Sardaar 2 would be his last appearance on the big screen. However, a major revelation about his upcoming work has now changed that picture.
Mukul Dev is set to appear posthumously in Udta Teer, the upcoming spy comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan. The film reportedly includes a significant track featuring the late actor, with his character facing off against Ayushmann Khurrana’s character.
Mukul Dev To Be Seen In Udta Teer
Mukul Dev passed away on May 23, 2025, at the age of 54. His untimely demise left the film industry and audiences saddened, particularly because the actor had continued to remain part of several film projects.
His appearance in Son Of Sardaar 2, which released around two months after his death, was widely considered to be his final on-screen performance. However, that assumption is no longer accurate.
A major portion of Udta Teer was filmed in 2024, and Mukul Dev completed his portions during that period. His role is said to be connected directly to the film’s main storyline and includes both comedy and action.
Mukul Dev Has A Face Off With Ayushmann Khurrana
One of the most interesting aspects of Mukul Dev’s role in Udta Teer is his character’s confrontation with Ayushmann Khurrana.
According to a source, the late actor’s track is not simply a brief appearance. His character has a face-off with Ayushmann’s character, and the sequence combines humour with action.
The source said, “A major chunk of Udta Teer was shot in 2024, and that’s when Mukul Dev filmed his portions. His character has a face-off with Ayushmann’s character. His track is not only funny but also action-packed and forms an important part of the narrative.”
The source further praised Mukul Dev’s performance, adding, “As always, Mukul’s performance is spot-on and is sure to be loved by the audience.”
This makes Udta Teer particularly significant for fans of the actor, as it will offer another opportunity to see his work on screen.
Ayushmann Khurrana And Sara Ali Khan Lead Udta Teer
Udta Teer brings together Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles. The film is being presented as a spy comedy, combining action and humour as part of its entertainment appeal.
The project is a collaboration between Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga Kapoor’s Sikhya Entertainment. The two production banners have previously worked together on projects including Kill, Gyaarah Gyaarah and The Lunchbox.
For the makers, Udta Teer also represents a move into the spy-comedy genre.
The film is directed by Akash A Kaushik, who is making his directorial debut with the project. With an action-oriented story mixed with comedy, the movie is expected to bring a different combination of genres to audiences.
Udta Teer Release Date Shifted
Udta Teer was originally scheduled to arrive in cinemas on September 11. The release was later pushed to October 9.
The delay means audiences will have to wait a little longer to see Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan in their latest collaboration.
Interestingly, Udta Teer is their second film together. Their first collaboration, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, also released earlier in 2026.
The combination of the two actors, along with the spy-comedy setting, gives the film a distinct place in their respective filmographies.
Mukul Dev’s Acting Journey
Mukul Dev had an interesting journey before becoming a familiar face in Hindi cinema. Born in Delhi, he initially trained to become a pilot at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi.
However, he eventually found his calling in acting.
He began his career with television serials and, around the same period, made his film debut in Mahesh Bhatt’s Dastak in 1996.
Over the years, Mukul Dev appeared in several notable films. His credits included Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena in 2005, Yamla Pagla Deewana in 2011, Son Of Sardaar in 2012, R...Rajkumar in 2013 and Jai Ho in 2014.
His work across different genres allowed him to take on a variety of characters, making him a recognizable supporting performer in Hindi cinema.
Mukul Dev’s Final Years
Mukul Dev died on May 23, 2025, after being hospitalized for around a week.
About a month after his death, his younger brother and actor Rahul Dev spoke to Bombay Times about the circumstances surrounding his final days.
Rahul Dev said that Mukul had spent eight and a half days in the ICU and attributed his condition medically to poor eating habits. He also revealed that Mukul had stopped eating during the last four to five days.
Rahul Dev further described the emotional difficulties his brother had experienced, saying, “Of course, he felt lonely, and he had lost interest in life. Usko zindagi jeene ka jazba nahi tha.”
He also said that Mukul Dev would turn down several work offers.
Why This Matters
The news of Mukul Dev’s appearance in Udta Teer adds another important chapter to the actor’s screen legacy.
While Son Of Sardaar 2 was widely believed to be his final performance, audiences will now get to see another previously filmed role. The fact that his character has an important narrative connection and a face-off with Ayushmann Khurrana makes the appearance even more notable.
For viewers who admired Mukul Dev’s work, Udta Teer will therefore carry significance beyond its spy-comedy storyline.
Mukul Dev’s Last Screen Appearance May Be A Memorable One
Mukul Dev’s journey from pilot training to television and eventually Hindi cinema was marked by several memorable roles. His work in Udta Teer was filmed before his untimely death, allowing audiences one more opportunity to watch him perform.
With Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan leading the film, and Mukul Dev appearing in an action-packed and humorous track, Udta Teer now has an added emotional significance.
The film is scheduled for release on October 9, and when it arrives, Mukul Dev’s performance will serve as another reminder of the work he left behind.
