‘The Batman – Part II’ May Start Filming Sooner Than Expected, New Rumor Suggests
Although The Batman – Part II is still years away, new reports indicate that Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated sequel may begin filming much earlier than fans thought. While Warner Bros. originally hinted at a spring 2026 production start, a new rumor suggests the team could roll cameras as soon as January 2026.
According to The Herald (Scotland), the film has officially entered pre-production, with major shooting expected to take place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England. Production designer Luke Hull also shared scouting photos from Glasgow, signaling the city’s return as Gotham—something fans immediately celebrated.
Even with filming potentially moving ahead, viewers will still need some patience. The Batman – Part II is scheduled to release on October 1, 2027. However, after nearly three years of waiting for updates, this rumored shift is exactly the kind of news DC fans wanted to hear.
Pattinson and Reeves Are Eager to Begin
When Warner Bros. Discovery first confirmed a 2026 shoot, reports pointed to an April start date. Neither Matt Reeves nor DC Studios ever confirmed a specific timetable, but the January rumor aligns well with the excitement behind the scenes.
Back in March, Robert Pattinson joked that he “f*ing hoped”** filming would begin sooner rather than later, considering it’s been years since he last wore the cape and cowl. Reeves later revealed that Pattinson loved the finalized script, which was completed over the summer—another promising sign that production might be moving quickly.
Everything We Know So Far About ‘The Batman – Part II’
Matt Reeves returns to direct the sequel, co-writing the screenplay with Mattson Tomlin. Several key cast members from the first film are confirmed to return:
-
Robert Pattinson – Bruce Wayne / Batman
-
Jeffrey Wright – Jim Gordon
-
Andy Serkis – Alfred Pennyworth
-
Colin Farrell – Oz Cobb / The Penguin
As of now, Zoë Kravitz (Selina Kyle / Catwoman) and Cristin Milioti (Sofia Falcone) are not expected to return.
The sequel will introduce a new villain, though Reeves has yet to reveal who it is. Fan theories heavily point toward Mr. Freeze, Hush, or even the Court of Owls as strong contenders.
How It Fits Into DC’s Bigger Picture
The Batman – Part II arrives on October 1, 2027—just months after James Gunn’s Superman: Man of Tomorrow hits theaters in July. While the two franchises exist in separate universes, DC Studios reportedly wants both icons on the big screen in the same year.
There’s also ongoing discussion about The Penguin HBO series and the possibility of a Season 2. The future of that spinoff may depend heavily on the events of Part II.
With rumors heating up and production seemingly moving forward earlier than planned, the road to Gotham’s next chapter looks more exciting than ever.
