Wonder Man Breaks Records as Marvel’s Highest-Rated Disney+ Series

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is no longer just about blockbuster movies. With Disney+, Marvel expanded into TV shows — and that’s where things became complicated. While early series like WandaVision and Loki earned praise, later shows such as She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, and Ironheart divided fans and damaged trust.

Now, Wonder Man has done something no recent Marvel series could: unite audiences and critics — and set a brand-new MCU record.

Wonder Man Sets a New Audience Score Record

Wonder Man premiered on January 28, releasing all episodes at once. Critics quickly responded with strong reviews, giving the show a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes, later settling at a still impressive 90%.

But the real surprise came from viewers.

At the time of writing, Wonder Man holds a 91% Popcornmeter score, making it the highest-rated live-action MCU series by audiences. This officially beats WandaVision (88%), which had long been considered the gold standard for Marvel TV.

When including animated shows, Wonder Man ties with X-Men ’97, but for a live-action series starring a lesser-known character, this achievement is huge.

Why Fans Are Loving Wonder Man

On paper, Wonder Man could have failed easily. The show follows Simon Williams, a struggling Hollywood actor who slowly becomes a superhero — not exactly the usual Marvel formula.

Instead of relying on massive action scenes and CGI-heavy battles, the series focuses on character relationships, especially between Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley, who returns as the fan-favorite Trevor Slattery.

The chemistry between the two characters has become one of the show’s biggest strengths.

A Different Kind of Marvel Show

Critics and fans agree that Wonder Man feels refreshingly different. Some reviews describe it as a “fresh take on superheroes,” while others call it “one of the best Marvel Disney+ shows by a mile.”

Even The New York Times compared the show’s emotional journey to Midnight Cowboy, praising how the friendship between the two leads is tested over time.

Most importantly, audiences were willing to accept a smaller, more personal story — something Marvel hasn’t done often on Disney+.

Is There a Season 2 Coming?

Right now, Marvel has not confirmed a second season. Wonder Man is part of the Marvel Spotlight label, which usually tells self-contained stories rather than long-running series.

However, if viewership numbers match the overwhelmingly positive reviews, Marvel may not be done with Simon Williams or Trevor Slattery just yet. Future appearances in other MCU projects are still possible.
