A new horror film starring Gillian Anderson has officially revealed its first images and theatrical release date. The movie, titled Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miamsa, will hit cinemas on August 7, 2026.

The announcement was made by Mubi on Friday the 13th, a fitting date for a slasher-style film. The project is directed by Jane Schoenbrun, known for their critically praised 2024 film I Saw the TV Glow.

Story: A Slasher With a Twist

Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miamsa is not a typical horror movie. The story follows a queer filmmaker who is asked to revive a famous horror franchise. During the process, she tries to cast the original “final girl” — a once-famous actress who has become reclusive over the years.

This search pulls both women into a strange and emotional journey filled with desire, fear, and confusion. Director Jane Schoenbrun has described the film as “Friday the 13th meets A Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” blending classic slasher horror with deep emotional storytelling.

The title clearly pays tribute to the legendary horror franchise Friday the 13th, and even the August release date matches the history of that series, as several Friday the 13th films were also released in August.
