HBO Moves Popular Shows Ahead of Super Bowl Weeken

The Super Bowl is one of the biggest television events in the world, and it forces even major networks to adjust their schedules. This year is no different. HBO has officially decided to release new episodes of two fan-favorite shows earlier than planned to avoid competing with the Super Bowl broadcast.

The Super Bowl will air on Sunday, February 8, on NBC, featuring the New England Patriots vs. Seattle Seahawks at Levi’s Stadium in California. With over 120 million viewers expected to tune in, most TV networks prefer not to risk low ratings for their original shows.

HBO Changes Release Dates to Protect Viewership

According to reports, HBO has moved new episodes of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and Industry Season 4 to Friday, February 6, instead of their usual Sunday slots.

The shows affected include:

  • A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms – Episode 4

  • Industry – Season 4, Episode 5

This decision helps HBO maintain strong viewership numbers, especially for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which has been performing well since its debut.

Return to Westeros Continues to Attract Fans

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a spin-off from Game of Thrones and is based on George R.R. Martin’s novella The Hedge Knight. The series stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Aegon “Egg” Targaryen.

The story follows the early adventures of the knight and his young squire as they attend their first jousting tournament and encounter famous Westeros houses like the Targaryens, Dondarrions, and Fossoways.

If successful, future seasons may adapt The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight, with George R.R. Martin also teasing many more Dunk and Egg stories that could reach the screen.

Super Bowl Ads Still Attract Big Stars

Even though streaming platforms have changed how people watch TV, Super Bowl commercials remain powerful. Big actors still see value in appearing during the event when the concept is creative and fun.

This year, Adrien Brody, a two-time Oscar winner, will appear in a TurboTax Super Bowl commercial. Known for serious dramatic roles, Brody uses humor to play against his image.

He explained that the idea of mixing tax season stress with dramatic acting made the ad both relatable and funny. Brody also shared that he enjoys comedy and likes making fun of himself, challenging the idea that serious actors cannot be humorous.

Super Bowl Still Dominates Television

While traditional TV ratings have declined in recent years, the Super Bowl remains an exception. For networks like HBO, moving popular shows is a smart move to avoid losing viewers on such a massive TV night.

With early releases and smart scheduling, HBO ensures fans can enjoy new episodes without choosing between their favorite shows and football.
