The ancient Indian epic Ramayana is coming to the big screen in a massive two-part film directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The first trailer gives fans a closer look at the story, characters, battles, and stunning visuals planned for this ambitious project.

With Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana, the movie is already attracting worldwide attention. The production is also being made on a huge scale, with both films reportedly carrying a combined budget of around $500 million.

What Is Ramayana About

Ramayana follows Prince Rama, the eldest son of King Dasharatha, who is sent into exile for fourteen years. He leaves the kingdom with his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana.

Their peaceful life in the forest changes when Ravana, the powerful king of Lanka, becomes involved in their story. After Sita is abducted, Rama begins a dangerous journey to rescue her and defeat Ravana.

The story explores themes of duty, loyalty, courage, love, and the battle between good and evil.

What the New Ramayana Trailer Shows

The four-minute trailer introduces Ravana and his powerful kingdom before turning its attention to Rama and his family.

Viewers get a glimpse of Rama's life before and during his exile, along with Sita and Lakshmana. The trailer also introduces Surpanakha, whose encounter with Rama eventually leads to a series of events that changes everything.

The preview features large-scale battles, mythological weapons, dramatic locations, and impressive visual effects. It also hints at the massive conflict that will unfold after Sita's abduction.

A Huge Production for Indian Cinema

Ramayana is being produced on a scale rarely seen in Indian cinema. The two movies were filmed in IMAX format, with major visual effects work being handled by DNEG.

The production brings together Prime Focus Studios and Monster Mind Creations, with Namit Malhotra involved as producer.

The film's music is another major attraction. Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer is working with Indian music composer A.R. Rahman on the score.

When Will Ramayana Be Released

The first part of Ramayana is scheduled to arrive during the Diwali 2026 period, while the second movie is expected to release during Diwali 2027.

The timing has special meaning because Diwali is traditionally associated with Rama's return to Ayodhya after his long exile and his victory over Ravana.

The film is expected to have an international release, bringing one of India's most important mythological stories to audiences around the world.

Why Ramayana Could Be a Major Blockbuster

Ramayana combines a famous ancient story with modern filmmaking technology, a huge reported budget, an international creative team, and some of India's biggest stars.

The trailer suggests that Nitesh Tiwari is aiming for a cinematic experience that can compete with large-scale fantasy and mythological films from Hollywood while keeping the story rooted in Indian culture.

If the final films deliver on the scale promised by the trailer, Ramayana could become one of the biggest Indian movie events of 2026 and 2027.
